Neil Wesley Blake. Sr., of Riegelwood, NC, passed away at his home on July 27, 2006, at the age of 92.

Wesley was born December 1, 1913 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late William Henry Blake and Alma Wanet Blake. His first wife of 48 years, Frances Russell Blake, preceded him in death.

Wesley was a graduate of New Hanover High School, Class of 1930. His entire career centered on family businesses beginning with his father’s farming, general contracting and the millworks, W.H. Blake & Sons. For almost sixty years he was in partnership with his brother Anthony A. Blake in Wanet Farms, Wanet Sausage Co. and America Skins, a pork skin business. In 1976, they were recognized at the NC State Fair as the “Tree Farmers of the Year”. He was also a charter member of the Cape Fear Optimist Club.

His life was focused in service to the church, his family and friends. He was an enthusiastic member and leader through the years at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, Goshen Baptist Church, Trinity Methodist Church, Livingston Baptist Church and at Cape Fear Baptist Church where he had been a member for the last several years.

Neil Wesley Blake was a gentleman whose faith directed his business decisions and whose business experience was used in service to his Lord through his church.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Beulah F. Blake; six sons, Rodger Russell Blake and wife Evelyn, Neil W. Blake, Jr. and wife Ann, William “Bill” H. Blake and wife Sandy, Michael Wanet Blake and wife Peggy, Bryan F. Blake and wife Jenny, and James C. Blake and wife Jeannie; step-children, Henry Clay “H.C.” Blake, Jr. and wife Magdalene, Zelma B. Heller and husband Frank, Lloyd Alan Blake and wife Toni, and Elizabeth B. Settlemeyer and husband Bill; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Blake Whitaker of Bossier City, LA.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, Wilmington, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Monday, July 31, 2006, at Livingston Baptist Church, Delco, NC, with Rev. Dondi Pace and Rev. Brian Beaver officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, NC.
