September 17, 1950 - November 25, 2011
Jim Davis, 61, of Victoria, TX, passed peacefully in his sleep Nov. 25. Jim was born in Gilmer, TX, to the late James Edward and Sarah Jessalyn Davis. He worked in the oilfield all his life and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His sense of humor delighted his friends and family. He was proud to tell people he was a "high-tech redneck" and a Friend of Bill W. He enjoyed fishing, and though he lived in South Texas for much of his adult life, he adored the East Texas Piney Woods and its lakes and fishing holes. Jim's family is comforted to know he is free of all his earthly troubles, and his earthly joys cannot compare to what he has now seen.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Dahlstrom Davis, daughters Kim and Rose Davis, Joy and Tom Roeh, and Becca and Zeke Harkleroad, and his sisters Kathy and Gary Haecker and Susan and Ron Minatrea. He adored his four granddaughters Riley, Reagan and Rebecca Roeh and Zoe Davis, and his numerous nieces and nephews. The family will welcome visitors Monday, Nov. 28 from 6-8 PM at Harrell Funeral Home South in Austin. Services will be held at Harrell Funeral Home South at 11 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a graveside service immediately following at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, TX. Pallbearers will be his nephews and sons-in-law.
The cause closest to Jim's heart was Mitochondrial Disease, which affects three of his granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to The Memorial Hermann Foundation. Donations can be mailed to UT Mitochondrial Center, Dr. Mary Kay Koenig, 6431 Fannin St., MSB 3.151, Houston, TX 77030.
